Tourmalet Partners is led by Anshul Ruparell and Sheldon McCormick. They were the co-founders of Properly, a company that enabled homeowners to access their home equity to buy their next home before selling their current one. In five years, they scaled the business to $30+ million in annual sales and $1.5+ billion in annual customer transactions, becoming one of the most recognized brands in Canadian real estate. Properly was backed by prominent investors including Bain Capital and was recognized as one of the best workplaces in Canada by Great Place to Work. Properly was acquired in 2023 by Compass Real Estate (NYSE:COMP).
Anshul Ruparell
Anshul was most recently the CEO of Properly. Before Properly, Anshul worked at FJ Labs, a venture capital firm that invested early in companies such as Alibaba and Uber. As a member of the investment committee, he led investments in new businesses and launched ventures such as a digital insurance brokerage (acquired in 2017) and a recruiting marketplace for hourly workers (acquired in 2020).
Prior to FJ Labs, Anshul was a private equity investor at CPP Investments, where he focused on investing in companies and supporting portfolio companies across the industrials and business services sectors. Anshul began his career in investment banking at Bank of America Merrill Lynch.
Born and raised in Calgary, he hails from a family of entrepreneurs and began working within the family business at age 12 (cleaning cars at one of the family’s car dealerships!). Anshul holds an HBA from Ivey Business School and an MBA from Columbia Business School. He's an enthusiastic cyclist and runner, and lives in Toronto with his wife, two sons, and their dog.
Sheldon McCormick
Sheldon was most recently the COO of Properly. Before Properly, Sheldon played a pivotal role in launching and building Uber in Canada. He built the ground operations that contributed to scaling Uber Canada’s ridesharing business from inception to millions of trips per week. His dedication and leadership earned him the position of General Manager for all of Ontario, overseeing a $1 billion P&L and a team of over 80 employees.
Prior to Uber, Sheldon was a management consultant at Monitor Group, where he focused on sales, pricing, and marketing in the chemicals and industrials sectors.
Sheldon grew up in Sydney, Nova Scotia, and holds a BComm degree from Queens University. Outside of the office he enjoys playing golf and recreational hockey. He lives in Waterloo with his wife, daughter, and their dog.
